3 year old in walker

I have a 3 year old who had a brain tumor removed last year and it has left him in a walker. We do not know if he will walk on his own again.

When we go to parks, birthday parties, picnics, etc, all of the other kids are running around and having a good time. My son usually sits on the ground by himself and watches. It is very difficult to maneuver his walker in grass, and he has no balance without it. Are there any other parents here who have had similar experiences? How did you handle it?
