child loves collecting sticks and holding objects

Our 4 year old son has an obsession with collecting and holding sticks when we go to the playground or park.

We have been having our boy assessed for some developmental delays over a year and they have still yet to make a diagnosis.

He has some sensory issues and speech delay and thoughts have been whether they are autistic traits.

The paeds, psychologist, speech therapists and OT's don't tend to think he is autistic but we believe he may be on the spectrum.

At the playground he doesn't tend to play like the other kids and will almost zone out while he walks the parameters collecting sticks. Then he will snap out of it and play like the others for a while before becoming obsessed with sticks again.

He also likes bending to top so they look like a lower case 'r' and will look at the intently.

Anyone experienced similar?
