Exclamation Ongoing Fever For Three Weeks in 4 year old? Please Help.

My 4 year old son has been having fever for three weeks now. It started out as a low grade and I passed it off for toothache or teething. Well another week went by still had fever on and off and began complaining of a stomach ache everyday. The fever started going up to 102-103 and would come when he'd go to bed. He stopped eating, just nit picking his meals. He keeps having these weird episodes where he's playing one minute and will be down and lethargic and then bounce back up. I really got scared Sunday night because he awoke with 105.8 fever. We took him Monday to the Dr. and he ran some lab work and said everything was fine that it looked like the beginning of a virus. Well, I could not leave it at that. So I took him to Children's ER. They did a strep test and culture on him and said he's constipated. I call today to check on the strep and it's negative. He's not constipated ,he goes 2X a day and never complains when he has a BM. I'm still have a bad feeling and I don't know what to do. If anyone has delt with these complications before or has an idea of what it could be please let me know. Another thing is that nobody in our home has any of the symptoms or anything, its only him. Please help if you can.

I am not a doctor but I have heard something like mentioned constipation....did they have him drink barium and do an x-ray? Even though he goes to the bathroom he could still have a blockage on either side of the intestine.....going along time with this will cause fever and stomach cramps and the toxins will leak into the blood system and it can be fatal.
As a mother of children that are 4,3,3 I would insist that more tests be done and I would probably go to a specialist or a top childrens hospital. There is a hospital in Florida.....Called All Childrens Hospital. See if you can find their site and ask questions there. Don't let this go....a fever is a sign of infection somewhere in his little body. Keep us posted please?

The Dr. did mention an x-ray but he did not want him to have one unless it was a last resort because of the radiation. He said he will have plenty in his lifetime so he would wait another week to see if improves with laxative. His belly aches are really bad he curls up in floor and cries. Even in the middle of the night he wakes me because he is crying and moaning in his sleep. I wnat to cry thinking about it. I looked and looked on the internet trying to find something that matches his symptoms. Also they told me to continue rotating tylenol and motrin for his fever. I've heard bad things about continous use of ancetaminophens. I tried to leave the fever alone one night hoping ot would go away but thats when he woke up with 105.8 fever. Needless to say I will never let it go again. I think there is an infection somewhere in in his stomach or bowels. I don't have any idea what test that are available. They did a CBC, Mono, Blood Chemistry, Urinanalysis, Strep, Strep Culture and a Urine Culture. All these showed up negative. You think that maybe there is a test that could be ran that could give an answer?

Curious as to have the weekend went for you.
I would NOT let it go if your son is still having problems. Stomach pains could be from a GI problem. Undetermined fevers could be any number of things.
Please do not let them try to dissuade you from calling them every day until you get answers.

I just wanted to let you know that they never did tell me exactly what was wrong with my son. He has been on antibiotics(Cefzil) for a week now and laxative (Mucilax). He is doing so much better. No fever and no bellyaches. I was so worried and will pay alot more attention on bathroom stops. Thank you hrtofluv for your concern.
