frequent diarrhea in 2-year old??? help!!!!

hello, i am not sure if any other parents have gone thru this or not, but for the past couple of months my 2-year old has had bouts of diarrhea our of the blue. the diarrhea looks like loose stools with chunks of food. it is sometimes watery and sometimes just very very mushy. she is not otherwise sick and doesn't have a fever. the diarrhea itself usually lasts about 5 days and then she is back to normal. this happens at least twice per month. the pediatrician really did not have much to say about it... they said if it ever lasts more than 2 weeks then they would want her to come in to get a stool sample (to make sure she doesn't have a parasite or some other infection). otherwise they said to just limit her juice intake.

has anyone else ever gone through something similar? my daughter is not fully potty trained, either. i don't know if that makes a difference...

any input would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I had the same thing go on with my 2 year old son. He gets it every now and then and it lasts for a couple days. My son eats a lot of fruit, so the doctor said that is probably the culprit. He was tested and found to be healthy. The same can happen with juice. To avoid it, my kids stick to water and milk. I also find that when their molars are coming in, they get loose stool.

My youngest, who just turned 4, had what the dr said was Toddlers Diarrhea. Her stool was tested as well. All was normal. She also had the basic blood panel for allergies, including food. All was normal. For atleast 18 months I had to cut back on dairy products and fresh produce. She would be normal for maybe 10 days out of a month.
The only thing that I was able to give her to drink was diluted apple juice fortified with calcium since she wasn't getting milk. As soon as she had a solid stool, I would introduce a small helping of milk. Bananas was the exception to forbidden fruit because it is binding. Rice and other carbs help too.
My daughter is recently toilet trained and the diarrhea seams to have subsided for atleast 3 months now. The doc did say hopefully by the time she's 4. For you, hopefully a lot sooner!
You may want to check for allergies too. Even as adults, we can be allergic to something now, that we weren't when we were kids. Allergies can come and go.

Hope this helps.

thanks so much for your input! it is good to know that i am not the only one going thru this. i have definetly noticed that the diarrhea gets worse the more fruit juice and fruits that she eats. i will call the doctor again tomorrow and see if they will test her stool... i have already had her tested for allergies and that came back normal. hopefully this is just the toddler diarrhea and it will go away soon!
