My baby makes gasping type noises when sleeping

My son is almost 5 months. Within the past month on 2 occasions in the morning he was making gasping type noises when sleeping. The only way I can describe the sound is...when someone cries really hard after you stop and its like a gasping noise. That's what it sounds like to me. He apears to be fine other than the sound when it's happening.
My 5 month old daughter is making the exact same noises. Can anyone tell me what this is, or if there is anything that either helps it or makes it worse? Thanks in advance!
