Under Chin Lump

My son is almost 4 years old and he has suddenly developed a large lump right underneath his chin. It is sore to the touch and he recently had a bad cold and pink eye.
He has had an ultrasound where they say that there is infected tissue in the submental region but it is not an abscess and they are not sure if it a lymph node
They have prescribed him clindamycin 150mg 3 times a day.
I am worried that it could be cancer, is this a possibility?
Has anyone ever seen something like this before?

Re: Under Chin Lump

While it's a good thing you're keeping an eye on it, in all likelihood, the lump is an enlarged lymph node connected with his recent illnesses that has become infected.

I hope the antibiotics take care of it and that you can rest easy very soon.
