Thumbs up Cured of my fatigue issue - hopefully this helps someone

Up until about 2 years ago I was a pretty miserable person. I had migraine headaches from the age of 12. I would get them on average around 8 times per month. I needed to sleep a minimum of 12 hours every night and even after sleeping that long, I still did not feel rested. My head felt like it was almost numb and I felt like I was in a fog during my waking hours. I could not live a normal life. Most of the time, I didn't feel like doing much of anything. I was able to work, but I was often late due to my being so tired. I did become unemployed once due to my fatigue issues. I didn't feel healthy enough to pursue romantic relationships. I had always had a deep desire to go back to school, but knew I was going to fail because of my condition, so I didn't bother. I wanted to learn to play the piano, but knew I wouldn't be able to stick with it. My condition was keeping me from being the real "me."

Over the years I'd seen many doctors, specialists, alternative practitioners, and none of them had the answer to my problem. On the outside, I for the most part looked quite healthy. The doctors thought I had chronic fatigue, thyroid issues, depression and anxiety, a hypochondriac, or had other issues. I read many health books, visited many health boards over the years (including this one) seeking help as well. I tried many medications and supplements none of which provided any real relief. The only thing that ever helped was Ibuprofen (most of the time) to knock out my headaches.

During the last 20 years of my struggle I tried to eat healthy food most of the time. I took vitamins, I ate organic food, tried almost every type of diet you can imagine. I exercised almost daily over this time period as well, and still do, but none of it helped my headaches or fatigue.

My lab results almost always came back completely normal, other than low vitamin-d which is apparently pretty common in the U.S. general population.

All of this changed when, on a whim, I decided to try something, something I had tried once in the past, but apparently I hadn't given it enough of a chance to work-I COMPLETELY ELIMINATED CAFFEINE FROM MY DIET!

Yes! It turned out that unbeknownst to me, caffeine was ruining my life. I had long ago eliminated sodas from my diet, but had moved over to tea (eventually dropped sweetener), and later coffee as well. Toward the end of my struggle, I had gotten to the point where I was drinking 8 or more cups of green tea per day (and I really liked green tea). Green tea is supposed to be healthy, right? Well, not for me apparently.

I had tried in the past to eliminate caffeine from my diet, but I didn't give it very long. I gave it two weeks, and then went back to consuming it again. This time around, my thinking was that I would just try eliminating caffeine from my diet for as long as I could stand it, and see how I do with that. I wasn't really expecting anything to happen from doing that. I know that caffeine is associated with negative side effects in some people, so I thought it would be worth a try.

After approximately SIX WEEKS, I noticed some significant changes. First of all, I noticed that I was now sleeping fewer hours each night, yet feeling MORE rested. No longer was I needing a minimum of 12 hours of sleep every night, and my mind was feeling more clear. I could now sleep 5 or 6 hours and feel okay. Now, it is hard to even force myself to sleep more than 8 hours.

I also noticed something else. My migraine headaches that had plagued me since I was 12 were also no longer there. Since I stopped caffeine, I have only had maybe three headaches, and they were all attributable to other things (dehydration, flu, etc.).

I have kind of felt over the years like caffeine has always had an opposite effect on me. I could drink caffeinated beverages right before bed with no problem, in fact they would tend to help me go off to sleep more easily.

Now that my headaches and fatigue are gone I am able to pursue those goals that I hadn't been able to for all those years. In a sense it's like I've been reborn.

Anyway, I just thought that since this board was here for me in my times of struggle and I know that there are countless others out there who are still struggling, I feel it is my minimum duty to come back here and share with everyone here what helped me. I know that eliminating caffeine won't work for everyone, but if it helps one other person then I say: mission accomplished.

Whether it helps or not, I do sincerely hope that whoever reads this finds an answer to their fatigue problem and soon so that they can also feel relief. I never thought that I would find a solution to my problem, and I had no idea the solution would be so simple.

    Good luck to you all.
