New here.

I am new here and have some questions that you all might be able to help with. I have not been diagnosed with cfs but have extreme fatigue. The fatigue started after a flu shot (been told just a coincidence)Sept. 08. After the shot I caught a very bad flu and just didn't seem to get over it. I ran a low grade fever, was totally exhausted, etc for almost a year. Then I started to feel a little better, but the fatigue just won't end. I will feel fine for a few days and then back down again. My dr always attributed it to the fact that I am bipolar and was under stress. He finally did a test for HHV6 as he says that the virus is a marker for cfs. My titer came back 1:1280. From all I have read, this is extremely high. He had me retested and said that he felt I had had an active infection but that it was in remission now. That was the last he said about it. I am willing to accept that my condition is "mental" but having tested positive for a marker for cfs, I would at least like to understand what the test findings actually meant. I have been bipolar for many years but this fatigue I can almost tell you the exact day that it started. Any opinions anyone?

Re: New here.

I have heard of this being one of the causes of CFS. Did your doctor put you on an anti-viral? After being fatigued that long, you might ask about giving that a try. It might help. I can't trace my fatigue to anything specific, but it started with me off and on and then became daily. Your immune system acting up can make you extremely exhausted. Why would you want to accept this as a mental thing? I do have major depressive illness and generalized anxiety disorder, ADD, I'd be hyperactive if it weren't for the fatigue, but I would never want to think it's mental and just accept it as something I cannot get help with. Your tired for a reason, never think that is mental, or at least not all in your head. You might look into a fatigue specialist if your doctor doesn't take it seriously. Someone that deals with immunosupressive diseases.
