    Terrible headaches

I'm an 18 year old girl and I've had bad headaches since I was about 8 years old. When I was younger, they tended to be in the back of my head but now they're more towards the front and around my temples. I do get migraines from time to time, but these other headaches are different. I only used to get them maybe 4-5 days out of the week, but now I get them every single day shortly after I wake up. The pain is about as bad as a migraine, but it's almost like a stabbing sensation rather than throbbing. I can only take Tylenol for the pain, as other medicine makes me sick, but it does nothing but dull the headache slightly. Not sure if should see a doctor or not.

You should probably see a doctor.. a neurologist who specializes in headaches since your primary doctor isnt going to be able to do much for you other than take some blood work and make sure you are healthy...

A neuro who specializes in headaches will be able to determine what is causing them and prescribe something stronger than Tylenol which will help you. There are allot of meds on the market specifically for different types of headaches. There are also different types of migrane headaches. Some are stabbing like you described; others are blinding and feel like they are behind your eyes...having an eye issue can also cause headaches. Have you had a good eye checkup recently?

Yes, please see a headache specialist. It isn't normal to be having headaches that frequent.
There are treatments that can be tried. Most people find some relief, although it can take a lot of trial and error. Plus you want to rule out the scary but unlikely stuff. If the first headache specialist isn't a good fit, then try another one.

Also beware of analgesic rebound headache - taking analgesics frequently can actually cause headaches. To truly rule that out you'd need to stop taking the Tylenol for a few weeks, not just take it less often, and see if the headaches are less frequent. That is something best done under the care of a doctor too, as you would feel worse for awhile, and there are ways they could make that easier.

Rebound is a higher probability if your headache type and/or location changed at the same time they got more frequent, and that happened after taking Tylenol more frequently. Some folks are more prone to it than others. Thought I'd mention it as a possibility at least, because if you go into a specialist and say you are taking Tylenol frequently, that is probably the first thing they will mention, and some doctors don't even want to try treatments before ruling that out, as it is thought that they aren't very likely to help rebound headache. Hang in there! Best wishes.
