Pm Apt Monday Dec. 15th

Hi everyone!
Im excited and aprehensive about my appt. on Monday, being we are supposed to get a huge storm. We already have about a foot of snow on the ground to boot.
We are hosting our annual yearly Christmas party Sunday night, so there is no way I can go and spend the night Sunday. Im not even going to have a glass of wine because of the test Im sure theyll do. One glass of wine three times a year is about all I drink, too.

Ive been writing down questions today to think of to ask my new PM. I was wondering if any of you can tell me what the number one questions you had for your PM when you first went.

I also got my records from my old doc. A copy was sent to the PM doc as well. He has everything documented about things we tried, ect. and also stated that I have been a pt with him for years and all went well.
He did have a part in there at the last saying that the pharmacy had called regarding multiple early refills, and that I had started seeing the ortho, and ortho had filled one script for me, so at this time he would not be rxing my pain meds, the ortho would be. Everytime I got my scripts from him, he knew, he wrote them, they werent refills, they were new scripts. So I dont understand why if they were going to be that early why he would write them for me, regarding the early fills. Multiple makes it sound like every fill was early.
But I am still under his care otherwise. It didnt state anywhere that he wasnt comfortable prescribing to me again, ect.

I have a list of everything med wise, supplements, topicals, ect. that I have tried. I also have all of the procedures documented as well and if they helped or didnt. I think thats about it except the questions I want to ask.

I called him yesterday to tell him thank you for my records, as it took over a week to get them to send them to me, and told him I was worried that the pm may not help me because of some of the content. I said, "Im afraid shes going to think Im a big fat addict." He laughed and told me not to worry, and that is why Im going to her so we can get things fixed.
Its out of my hands for now, and Im concentrating on
getting ready to put up the tree and I actually am dreading it. But the decorating is fun. Usually its up the day after Thanksgiving! Im sure you all know how it is

Thank you for all of your support, and Ill post when I get back late monday night or tue.

We haven't got our tree up yet either...maybe tomorrow. It's hard when both of us have cp.

As far as your pm appt. just try and relax and see what this doc has to say.
Don't worry so much. You can only do so much as far as getting ready.
Explain to the doc how the medication was not controlling your pain...if it comes up. I hope things work out for you and you finally can get some steady care so you can go back to living your life and not worrying about whether you're going to be able to get off the couch tomorrow.

Take care and drive safely.~M

Do you think he was referring to a few months ago when you had to call him and ask him for early refills a couple of times due to lost scripts and other emergencies?

Re: Pm Apt Monday Dec. 15th

Good luck Izzy! My PM ended up covering alot of questions I would have asked during my first visit. My husband who was suppose to sit & let me do most of the talking, lol, ended up asking most of the questions.
For the most part I just wanted to be assured I was going to get better control of the pain. My husband came right out & ask this PM was he going to help me. I was unusual as I did not have a solid DX. The first thing the PM said was he was going to continue to look at what was causing all this pain & asked if I would agree to have ESIs done the help find the problem.
He also went over the meds he used & all the precautions I had to take. He really warned me about addiction. He was not going along with the previous DX & even described some of what I was going through before I could spit it out. MIne seemed very pleased that my husband was with me & even asked him some questions. My husband came out as he does with every doctor & let him know that he feels helpless with me crying in pain every day.

I am assuming that PMs are ask all kinds of questions. I was worried about being able to get in if there was a problem before my next appointment. I got lucky because this PM does really care & his office does try to get you in if there are any problems. Especially if new meds are tried. For me that would be a question I would ask. With you being so far away I would really make sure it was ok to call if there is a problem.
I am sorry Izzy but I forget what your pain is caused from, can you remind me please?
I was more worried because of not having a solid DX that he would look at me like a drug seeker of think it was all in my mind.
He could see I was in pain. Dont forget that, any good doctor can see it & thats not something you can fake. It shows in your eyes, body language & so on... I dressed the way I always do. I let him know I tried to live as normal as I could & how much work & other things meant to me. I let him know that I was helpless in the mornings & had to put most things off till my second dose of meds. My husband told him how careful I was with the meds & even to the point where he had to tell me to take them.
I know all doctors are different but my PM & most of my doctors for that matter seem to like the fact that my husband is with me & confirms how it can be for me. I took paper for notes & reports on test results just in case. He did want my last MRI of my C spine, the one thing I did not bring, lol.
I am not sure if this helps you at all but it will be interesting to see how your PM & first appointment goes. I will be watching for your post, good luck & god bless. Sammy

Re: Pm Apt Monday Dec. 15th

I remember being really scared and apprehensive about my first pm appt. I think this is very natural because after all is the doctor going to suffer if he for some reason decides not to prescribe to you?

When I first saw my pm dr, I remember my first thoughts were GREAT, this is going to be a waste. As she began to talk, she put me at immediate ease, and stated that she was so very sorry for all the days I was improperly medicated and was even noted in my medical records. She asked to see my pain charts/documentation, looked at them and said well I anticipate we are going to have to raise you meds to 5 times more than you are on currently. She gave me a schedule to slowly raise them up to 3 times and said lets talk in one week but call me if you have any problems. In one weeks time, she raised them up 1 more level then we repeated it one week later again. So all my worries were for nothing!! Absolutely nothing!!

Take a deep breath and I am sure all will go smoothly for you. It is time for you to have a break and receive the care you so dearly deserve. I am praying and will pray frequently tomorrow for you.

Love, Pepper

Re: Pm Apt Monday Dec. 15th

I hope things go well tomorrow.('s late)
I was extremely nervous at my first visit because, like Sammy, I had(and still don't have) a diagnosis and because he is the head of the department at a major hospital. Still, when I have questions to ask him my heart rate is way up there.

About the early refill thing...I think you have to ask him exactly what he's talking about. Is he saying that that's why the ortho is prescribing because the pharmacy called him?? When did the pharmacy call him? Did he do anything then? Nothing you can do about it now except try to explain everything that was going on.

I would definitely ask her(?) about calling and emailing and what she's willing to do over the phone since you are so far away. Get ALL of your questions answered before she walks out that door!!! Bring paper and pen and hubby if you want. My doctor has started printing out the notes from our visits for me to have as I leave. So cool!

Make sure you go beyond the number scale/pain scale and tell her how the pain affects your daily life. This is what I can't do anymore... etc. Always tell the doctor how the pain is affecting your sleep.(affect/effect..I always ? myself on those..sorry, it's late) I'd make a list of all treatments and medications you have tried. They may be all jumbled around in your chart, unless you have a new organized electronic chart, and it may help your new doc come up with a game plan quicker. So, you'll have more time to ask questions!

TaDA....your whole visit has been analyzed and organized by the whole crew here and we could all be wrong!

GOOD LUCK AND DRIVE SAFELY! And, of course, post right away so we know how it went. Love you, Mush

I know it's probably past the time of your appointment, but I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I won't give any advice, because everyone else covered that really well, but I just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you and that you are in my prayers.

I'll check back in when I can, to see how it turned out. Take care and God Bless, CMP

Re: Pm Apt Monday Dec. 15th

don't worry, sweet heart. You will be OK.
I had the best experience with my PM on my first app. and still continue very good, honest relationships 3 years later.
The most important thing with them is honesty. My Dr trusts me, he knows me by now, we see each other once a month; we talk and than he gives me my refill RX. Maybe once a year I have to give my blood/urine for check up.

By contract I am not allowed to have any RX for Pain medication by any other DR. Even when I had my surgery and they gave me Rx at the hospital, I called his office and notified them about it and it was OK but only that one Rx after surgery. One month later we went back to my contract and the only Dr who RX my PK is my PM DR. He is very strict about it and I am glad he is for the sake of many people who may have addictive personalities.

I would tell him all your concerns, your health issues...My PM sends me to other specialists if he feels something needs to be checked. He is not only on top of my original ussues after spinal surgeries; he contacts my RA, my MS, my Cardiologist, Neurologist and so on Doctors. I wish your experience would be as good as I had from the bottom of my heart.!!

Have a nice Holidays!
