need something for pain

Abut 3 years ago I was stabbed in the back 3 times I had a collapsed lung wich I recovered from and one of the wounds was close to my spine. I am now 3 years later getting severe back pain on a daily basis. The pain starts in my back and then I get excutiating shooting breakthrough pain in the muscles in front of where one stabb wound was just below my ribs. It feels like something to do with nerve damage. Before I started getting this pain I would scratch or rub my back and I would get a tingling sensation in the front of my body. The pain is kind of the same situation. Does anyone know what this could be? I have no insurance and I was wondering if I splurge for a doctor is there any tests that can prove my pain? Would I likly get prescribed pain meds? If so what? My pain is usually a 7 or an 8.

Re: need something for pain

There are no tests that can "prove" pain, though CT scans, MRI's etc can sometimes show a leasion that is causing the pain

The doctor isnt going to start you on Oxycontin on your first visit - they are the last resort, not the first response.

You will likely need to try anti inflamatories, tricyclics, etc, which often work very well.

Beyond that there are many other options. If you are in that much pain, I would definatly see a doctor, apart from drugs, there might be a procedure they can do that will permemently relieve your pain!

Re: need something for pain

Sory to hear about your situation. You could start with neurontin(gabapentin)and see how that goes - it helps some. it's for nerve pain.

There is also percocet which relieve completelly the pain though it's not long acting like oxycontin.

If you live in the u.s your primary care doctor would be able to prescribe you percocet/vicodin.
good luck and tell us you how you doing!
