    coughing, when to be concerned???

6 Days ago I started coughing, no other symptoms except in day two I had a fever of 100.2 that went away after taking Tylenol at bedtime. The only sick person I had been exposed to was my mother 5 days ago, who was not sick at the time but shortly after I saw her she came down with a flu bug, stomach, runny nose, chills the whole thing. She also has a bad dry hacking cough.

My cough however has been a wet cough the whole time. I am coughing up small amounts of phlegm. Sometimes it is a dark yellow. My concern is when should I see a dr or if? I have had the typical cough before that last forever but it usually follows a running nose and is a dry hacking cough. This is wet and When I breath in deep I sometimes hear a rattle, also when I breath in deep it usually causes me to cough. Is this just a virus and I need to tough it out??

I think I had the same things in November. It is a virus. Some people end up with a sinus infection or bronchitis, but I think I would just see if you seem to improving after day 4 or 5 of the virus. If not, then it might be worth going to the doctor.

The mucinex with cough suppressant helped the most. Mlucinex DM.
