Have you taken anything for it? If it lasts longer than 2 weeks, I would see a doctor about it possibly being allergies

Depends on the virus strain....typical is 7 - 10 days.
But one can end up with secondary infections or more inflammation in lungs and throat exacerbated from coughing causing a cycle of mucus, dryness, coughing. As well, sinuses or the turbinates can become swollen as a reaction from a cold and become a secondary issue.

What problems exactly are you having?

I've had frequent coughing especially at night sometimes it will be dry and sometimes wet. Throat is hoarse. Very little appetite and not feeling well. I went to the doctor x ray showed no pneumonia. Gave me antibiotics telling me I should start them if not better in a couple of days. She said a cold without complications should last only 14 days. Today I started the antibiotics.

    Hi There,

I hope you get well so soon

To be on the safe side, i would recommend you to consult an ENT Specialist, if you're having a cold for more than 2 weeks. Since only symptoms of sinusitis can last for 4 weeks or more, while a cold usually resolves much more quickly. I hope this helps.

Normally a cold lasts 7-10 days and antibiotics will not help- BUT if your cold caused a secondary infection, antibiotics might help that.

This could just as easily be allergies. If after a few days on the antibiotics you do not feel better- see an allergist.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried any over the counter allergy medicine just to see if it will help? Even benadryl will dry you out and keep you from coughing if you have post nasal drip.
