Re: how long can virus infection last

There is a viral bronchitis going around this fall that can last 5-6 weeks to clear up (the last 2 weeks are basically annoying dry coughs). Antibiotics don't help at all but claritin-D helps dry up the congestion in your lungs (at least that's what I discovered).

Re: how long can virus infection last

I currently have an upper respiratory infection that I've had now for the past week and a half.

I was prescribed Amoxicillan (which didn't help), Allegra-D (which helped my congestion), cough syrup (which helped relieve my dry cough to some extent) and cough drops (which helped soothe my sore throat).

I'm just now able to start tasting and smelling food again. My sneezing has also improved and I no longer have many of the same symptoms I did before (fever, vomiting, a very bad headache, violent/forceful/repetitive sneezing and extreme sound sensitivity).

Now all I'm left with is a dry cough which I've been told can linger for an extra month.

Hope you feel better soon.
Atypical Bipolar I Disorder with Rapid Cycling
Depakote 1500mg
Prozac 40mg
Risperdal 1mg titrating to 6mg/day
Klonopin .5mg (2x/day)
Trazodone 100mg or 200mg PRN

Re: how long can virus infection last

Yes, I had this one. It lasted 6 weeks. Then I was healthy for a little over a week or two and bam! I have a second cold going full force. I work with 3rd graders and I am quitting because all I do is catch every germ they have. It's just not worth it to me. If I am sick another 6 weeks with this I will be very angry. Sorry ...can't help it. Good luck! I hope you don't have the same problem I have had.
