viral pnemonia

My husband was diagnosed with viral pneumonia a week in a half ago. He is in the stage of a bad cough. Does anyone know how long the bad cough usually lasts? It causes him great fatigue. When will he start feeling better?

Re: viral pnemonia

The cough can lst for a few weeks, depending on the case.

Is he coughing up stuff, or is it dry?

If its dry, a cough suppresant could help him stop needlessly coughing and ease the fatigue...... codeine, hydrocodone, both are very good (a prescription is needed for these0

Dextromethorphan is avaliable OTC and is also quite effective.

Given thatt he cause of the cough is pneumonia, his doctor should choose any treatemnt.
