Swollen glands

I had a cold at the start of October and then again a month later at the start of November, the cold is just about going away, just my nose is slightly runny. The glands in my neck are swollen but not painful, the glands in my groin area are swollen and left side is very painful, keeping me awake. I haven't taken any medication on either occasion. Can someone tell me why I've had the cold twice in such a small space of time and why my glands are swollen so bad and when they'll go away, thanks
