Post stomach scar (my stomach looks like a butt)

Due to the good ol Dr.I now have a scar that is so bad my stomach looks like a butt. I has a hystorymectomy in 92, followed by 3 other operations within 3 days after the first one. Then the infection set in, they reopened my stomach about 4 in' from my belly button, I left the host. (after a 32 day stay) with the hole open. Now my scar has a opening 3 in'wide and 2 in' deep. Their were so many complations after the first operation that we didnt question any, was just glad to be alive. Im 38 now and cant stand the way it looks but cant afford ( and a lil scard). Does anyone know someone that could help me???????

    Hi everyone
You both might want to consider going to a reconstructive plastic surgeon to get their opinion and to see what can be done to correct or at least improve the problem that you both have.
    Take care

That really is your only option, especially since your complaints are purely cosmetic in nature. If you developed medical complications NOW, if this interfered with your life, your medical insurance may cover scar revision. However, if it's an aesthetic issue, you'd need to consult a PS specializing in scar revision and abdominoplasty.

There are companies that finance plastic surgery, you can look into those.

If you own a house, you may consider taking out a 2nd mortgage.

You may be able to make payments to the surgeon directly.

You could check out teaching hospitals - they have them for other walks of medicine, so I'm sure there must be SOME students somewhere who need patients to practise on for plastic surgery (they're monitored by a board certified surgeon the entire time).

Re: stomach scar (my stomach looks like a butt)

dianntalk & others, I too experienced a "botched" surgery(1997)...a hysterectomy that landed me with incisional staph before I even left the hosp..My scar is about 6 in. long & 2 in. wide--HARD AS A ROCK & UGLY AS SIN!!!!..At the time of my hysterectomy I was married but have since become divorced & I balk at the thought of becoming scar does cause a certain degree of discomfort at times due to the tightness & I wonder if that would help in getting insurance to CONSIDER covering it..probably not but I have read several replies in other posts that suggest checking into teaching hospitals, I know they do dental work CHEAPER, not sure about cosmetics..I will be checking & post any info...Also, just wanted to mention that there is no other alternative to cosmetic surgery in a situation like ours...That old scar has to be removed, the muscles have to be removed & reattached..I am truly sorry for your experience...People don't understand unless they have been compromised in such a way....Keep me posted..Prayers, Shellie P.S. Check into "Scar Repair", I am doing so...didn't know it existed!
