Question Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

Reading all these posts about bad revision rhinoplasties is making me nervous. Are there any success stories out there? I have an appointmant to get one next month. I don't want to end up like Michael Jackson. I just want to look normal and than no more cosmetic surgery. I can live with my other imperfections, i just want to be able to walk down the street and not feel self-conscious and not hear anymore insults about my nose. Anyone have any encouragement out there?

I'm in the same boat. I'm sure ther's allot of good revision work going on out there by guy's no one is talking about on these message boards. Unfortunately once someones found a good surgeon and had a good result they want to go out and start living life and forget about all they've been through to get there. From what I know I don't think you can go wrong with top tier doctors like Dean Toriumi in Chicago or Mark Constantian in New Hampshire. There's also Rollin Daniel in Newport Beach. All these guy's are well known by their peers and regarded as good revision surgeons.

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

I am also in the same situation as you guys. I'm looking for a good revision specialist and I feel that with all the research I do on specific doctors it gets me nowhere. For instance, I thought my prayers were answered when I came across Dr. Tobias. He sounded to be very competent and really concerned about making me happy, but after reading all of these stories about him, I don't think I'll be going to him because I really want to make a wise decision and not jump into the surgery as I did the first one. The only doctor that I haven't heard bad things about is Dr. Nassif in Beverly Hills, but I don't have the money to go all the way to Calif. I know that it is my face and money shouldn't be a factor, but I'm also concerned with the traveling aspect. I would just feel more comfortable having the surgery where I live, so that it wouldn't be difficult to see the doctor if anything, comes up. I would love to hear from anyone about their revision surgeries whether postive or negative!

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, but actually sorry others have to go through what I'm going through. I'm mad at myself that I didn't find this site sooner cause everyone is talking about Nassif and I already booked and paid my deposit for another doc in Bev Hills. Plus, they barely sqeezed me in because I have a vacation coming up and I wanted to do it than. Ya, I wouldn't feel comfortable going somewhere out of state either. Than you have to have someone go with you, and you just want to be close to home when you go through something like that. I am just praying and praying that God will bless the hands of my doc. He seems really good, but rhinoplasties are never gauranteed, they're unpredictable. Of course, if it was gaurenteed, I would fly anywhere and pay anything cause it is your face, and the first thing people see. There comes a point where we just have to except ourselves though. God formed me and made me this way...for some reason.
Sometimes, what works for one person, might not work for another. The doctor I first went to when I was a teenager seemed competant and good (my mom picked him out). I even saw him on tv once, like Hard Copy or some show, talking about how important it is to find a good surgeon and they were interviewing him like he was so great. I was like: 'THAT'S THE GUY THAT SCREWED UP MY NOSE! Why is he on tv like he's some great sureon?' But, maybe others had good results with him.
I look forward to hear from you both and others on this matter.

Im going back to Sherrell Aston, NYC n 5 months for a revision. He did my initial in Feb. which I am pleased about (he is more conservative than not). So far I am very pleased with his work, and he is going back to fine tune the tip which needs minor work. I've heard he is one of the best, rhinos included.

Alsaser, who is the doctor performing your revision? I also went through the same thing. My mom picked out the surgeon because she saw him on TV. I'm starting to think that the doctors who appear on TV aren't the good ones with the exception of a few. For instance, Dr. Nassif is rarely on TV and people say he is one of the best. Anyway, good luck with everything!

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

I am scheduled to have surgery in a couple of months with Dr. Constantian in NH. My consultation went well, and I felt that although my appointment with him took a lot longer than was allotted to me, that he still was taking his time and wasn't pushing me out the door. He is very good about explaining things (why my initial rhinoplasty turned out the way it did, what my nose has done as a result of the surgery, what he will do to correct it) and seems to listen when you ask a question. I will be happy to report on my surgery (a revision rhinoplasty, forehead lift and blepharoplasty) once it is done. I have a couple more appointments, one in two weeks and another in 6 weeks just prior to my surgery and, if you are interested, I'll report on those.

Dr. Constantian is not unfriendly, but not a barrel of laughs either. He does not make you uncomfortable, but then don't expect him to be anything but all business. You can tell he takes his work very, very seriously, so this is a comfort if initially a little disarming. I've waited 25 years for this surgery and I take it seriously too...

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

Good luck Catinshoes. Yes, definatley post back and I will too. Mine's in 3 weeks. You sound like you picked the doctor that's just right for you, that's good, you need to be comfortable with the doc. You're guy sounds good. Did he do computerized imaging with you?
Hm74, my original was done by Niccole (I bet u never heard of him) and my revision will be done by Keyes. Keyes knew exactly what I wanted and has confidnce in his ability. My first dr was like, 'huh, I don't know if we can do exactly what u want cause your nose is so big...' Gee, thanks doc, like I didn't know! That's why I'm here!' I even saw before/after photos of some patients of my 1st dr, whose noses were way worse than mine. I don't know what went wrong.
I've heard only good about Nassif, if I would have found him earlier, I would probably pick him. Well, I can always go to him for my 3rd go around (I pray not, I just want to look decent enough to live life without being stared at or feeling self-conscious).
Hm74, are you also looking for a revision? Who did your first? Good luck to all and thanks for the replies.

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

My work was done by Dr. Eli Milch in NYC. I would suggest staying clear from him. If you google him, you will be shocked at the publicity he is known for. He killed an exoctic bird in Atlantic City and then just last year, he was arrested for demanding sex from a patient of his. I was shocked to read all of these negative stories about him. If you think this is shady, you should see the kind of work he does. He also has had many lawsuits against him, but of course I found this all out after I went to him. I am now looking for a revision specialist in NYC, which is not so easy. Just when I think someone is good enough, I find out negative feedback about them. It's really confusing.

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

Wow, that guy who did yours doesn't sound very humane. Shady indeed!
I know what you mean, you find someone who sounds good, than you hear this or that. But you gotta figure, no dr does a perfect job everytime. Our noses are unique, especially doing the revision work. One person will have a great experience with a dr and someone else the opossite. I heard the average cosmetic surgeon has one lawsuit a year.
I finally picked one, I think it'll be good, but who knows. I just have to entrust myself into God's hands and pray that He will bless my dr's hands and pray God's will for this. If God wants me to have a big nose, what can I do? I look back over the past 11 years and I really think God used my nose experince to build character in me. The person I am today I wouldn't be if it weren't for this thorn in my flesh. But I figure, Ok God, I have enough character, now if You'll please bless me with a decent nose.
If you'll look at taylorann's post, she listed a revisionist she liked in NYC. (I'm in CA, LA area). God bless you in your search. I'll keep u updated on my revision (in 3 weeks).

Please Read Before Having Revision Rhinoplasty!!!!

If you are thinking about having your nose done for the first or second time,PLEASE be cautious of who you go to. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO DR. TOBY MAYER IN BEV. HILLS. I had my nose done with him about two years ago, besides the fact that he is the most arrogant and kauky s.o.b. out there he ruined my nose leaving me with a completly slanted nose, he then admitted that he did in fact mess up and requested I do a revision with him a second time at no charge of course. So not having the money to go to another doctor I let him try and fix his mistake, going under the knife for a second time. Not only did he not straighten the nose but he made it worse. About 6mos later I came to him crying and regreting ever coming to him in the first place, he then acknowledged the fact that it still looks horrible and needs to do the surgery a third time. At that point I had absolutely no trust in him and am not going to let him treat me like a piece of meat that he can carve whenever he wants to. I now have a slanted nose that definitly needs to be fixed but will never let him touch me again. I not only have to pay a lot more money to have my nose fixed but have to go through the agony and pain of going through this whole process again. The Ironic thing is that I initially went to him b/c he was on tv and said that he NEVER has to do revisions b/c he is so good the first time. When I came to him he told me my procedure was the most standard and should not have any complications b/c all he needed to do was to remove the slight bump I had and that was it. From what seemed to be such a simple procedure was turned into a what is now a NIGHTMARE! So beware of who you go to and think about if you really want it done in the first place.

Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

alol123, I am really shocked to hear this because I was going to call him for a doctor referal. I just saw him on MTV a couple weeks ago and his work seemed pretty good and he did a revision on the person, which is much more complicated than just removing a bump. What did Dr. Mayer attempt to do for your second surgery? Did he need to take cartilage from elswhere to fix what he previously did? If you are in the LA area, you should really try to contact Dr. Nassif because I have heard that he has done wonders for people in the same postion. I only wish that he was in the NYC area so I could get to go to him.

Red face Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

    Alol123,
That's so horrible! What a nightmare. I guess you really can'y know who'll do your nose right 'til after the fact. How can you know? Some people get excellent results, the dr has great credentials, etc. But 4 some reason yours doesn't turn out right. I never considered Mayer, but I remember seeing his name on top LA surgeons lists or something. I'm going to Keyes. Ever hear of him? He's in Bev Hills. I guess I just won't know 'til its over with. I've been wanting this revision for over 10 years now. I can't wait, but your story scares me

Wink Re: Anyone actually getting good revision rhinoplasties??

Alsaser, no, Dr. Constantian did not do computer imaging, but I don't think this is a reliable tool. (I am a computer photo retoucher by profession, so I know this!)

He asks you to bring in pictures from magazines, etc. of noses you like (!) so I did. I like noses sort of like my original nose, but not as extreme. My nose was wide and turned up, but my bridge was very shallow, hence the silicone implant; it was more Asian or African even though I am caucasion. I was 17 when I had the first rhinoplasty, and I don't think I was able to articulate what I wanted (a narrower, more refined version of my own nose). What I got instead was a convex (via the implant) nose where the top of the bridge is sunken (between the nose and forehead at the brow) and the tip is blunt and wide and I have sunken nostrils as well.

I think when you show him a picture of a nose you think is attractive, it helps him know what you want, and he is able to tell you whether it is doable. You know, if you're starting with a certain kind of nose, it may be impossible to replicate someone's nose that has an entirely different shape, length, etc. In other words, Ashley Judd has a lovely, narrow and turned up nose, but I cannot expect to have my nose narrowed to that degree and it wouldn't fit my face. I picked two actresses whose noses were similar in some way to my old nose, but are prettier....
