    rhinoplasty revision - same surgeon?

If you had a rhinoplasty, and were displeased with the outcome, would you go back to the same surgeon to have a revision?

I had one about six years ago, and I hate the results. It's crooked. I can't breath. It looks cartoonish. It just gives me the impression that the surgeon lacked skill or vision, or just didn't care. It actually reminds me of the cartoon Doonesbury.

However, I have been corresponding with another surgeon, whose skill in rhinoplasty revision seems to be pretty respected by the online community, and he actually recommended that I go back to my original surgeon.

That makes me pretty nervous, considering how bad I think he did the first time. Revisions are supposed to be even more difficult. But, if this expert surgeon is recommending I go back then there must be something I'm missing. Anyone have any opinion or perspective?

Question Re: rhinoplasty revision - same surgeon?

    Noah:

I am in the exact same bind -- to return or not to the same doctor.

Two other doctors have told me to go back and "keep asking for what I want," as though it may take multiple procedures! Perhaps they know that sometimes, even with them, it takes several operations to get it right?

I don't know. I really hate the results, so it's hard to go back...

Has anyone else gone back to the same surgeon and gotten an improvement?

I was in the same situation as you. I had a bad primary surgery. Was told to go back to the same surgeon and I did. That is a huge regret!! I suggest consulting with a couple more doctors. I am seeking a revisionist now, but the surgery is more complex since I have had 2 already. Good luck.

I wouldn't go back to the same doctor. I just need the tip of my nose reduced a bit. It wasn't right so I went back and he agreed and redid it. Well he took out too much cartlidge on one side and now to get it corrected a bit of cartlidge would need to be removed from behind my ear. This was a pretty well respected surgeon but his speciality was breast implants. He really botched up a friend's nose. It was a mess!
No I would look for someone who specializes in redos

Did your surgeons charge you for the revisions?

Do any of you know of a revision specialist that is affordable? I emailed a certain Dr. Toriumi, asking for an estimate on the cost a procedure, and his assistant told me it would cost $25,000 plus another $9,000 plus a fee for the anesthesiologist, which I will never in my life be able to afford. But, I feel like even if my original surgeon redid my nose for free, I still might go to someone else instead.

As I went to the same dr, he didn't charge me but I had to pay for the anesthesia. My ENT dr told me I had a deviated septom due to the collapsed cartlidge so insurance would have paid for it. I don't want to go through it again though

I haven't heard so many good things about Tourimi. The revisionists I have consulted with charge: 6500, 5500, 9000.

I would NOT go back to the original PS, you are unhappy with the results from.
Many doctors don't want to fix someone else's mistakes. So they refer you back. You do need a PS that specializes in revisions.
And feels confidant, that this can be fixed to your satisfaction.

See lots of pictures of the PS' work. Make sure its the style you like.
Its great when they can show you a computerized picture of what the final outcome will look like.
That way you know, your on the same page, as far as the final result.

It seems a lot of us are in the same boat. It is definitely a bad place to be. I thank everybody for the advice.

Do you mind me asking who the surgeons are that charge 6500 and 5500?

The surgeons I've looked into are Doctors Toriumi, Becker - both of whom are too expensive for me, which is too bad because Dr. Becker's revision pictures really impressed me - and Guyuron, whom I have not yet received an amount from. Dr. Guyuron is the one who recommended that I go back to the same surgeon. I got a pretty good impression of Dr. Guyuron from the few emails he sent me.

Does anyone know of any revisionists on the east coast that are a little more affordable?

You should definately do more research on Toriumi, look at some other forums, you might find what is said very interesting. That price is rediculous, I think esp in the USA there are surgeon who are better and don't charge anywhere near that.

Re: rhinoplasty revision - same surgeon?

I had a rhinoplasty revision by a Dr. Charles Thorne in NYC. I had my first rhino two years ago and the 1st surgeon did a horrible job. Dr. Thorne really understood what I wanted and after researching he was one of the best plastic surgeons in NY. He is so kind and answered all my questions no matter how many times I called his office. I didn't want a nose that looked like I had work done and I'm happy with my results. I know you are looking for someone inexpensive but I think if you want perfection or to be happy you should pay for the expertise. He is in the moderate price range. Best of Luck, Jess
