costochondritis or pleurisy?

Hi im a 16 year old female and i had chest pains over the summer. i still am not sure what i had. I was at overnight camp so i never got to go see a real doctor. I saw the camp doctor and he checked me out but i wasnt paying attention to what he said i had cause i was so freaked out. Its been about 6ish months since i had the pains so im not exactly sure what they felt like anymore. It hurt on my bra line when i breathed and i remember it was difficult to take deep breathes. i remember saying it felt like there was a huge weight on my chest. it was so painful and i remember it being hard to sleep at night and it would hurt to move. the camp doctor prescribed me 600mg of advil and told me to do no physical activity. i also had strep throat a few days before the chest pain started so i was on erythromycin since i am allergic to penicillin. he said that pain and strep were connected somehow. ive been trying to some research and figure out what i had an ive narrowed it down to costochondritis and pleurisy. im not exactly sure how to tell the difference and i would really like to know what i had. please let me know your thoughts!

Re: costochondritis or pleurisy?

Hi -- the strep being connected to the chest pain suggests that this was not costocondritis. I would recommend asking the camp for a copy of your medical records and following up with your family doctor. And, of course, if you have any new or recurring chest pains, get to a doctor right away.
