Exclamation What is this on my gums? Should I go to dentists ASAP?

So I had a tooth abscess which I am scheduled to have a root canal in a couple months. I took antibiotics prescribed and the pain and swelling went away. Afterwards, I got what I thought was a canker sore, but it swelled and swelled. About half of my gum on the top part of my mouth was shiny red and swollen. Doing the dumb thing, I googled, and I find out that what a dentist would do for something like this is make an incision. Note that the swelling was very squishy. So, I sterilized a thumbtack and poked some holes in my gum. It felt great, and pus and some blood came out of the holes. Flash to two weeks later, and I still have the swelling over that one tooth that was abscessed, but it is the size of a pea. Every hour or so I can gently press on the swelling, and a decent amount of pus and a very small amount of blood come out. I'm worried because after all the pus that has come out, it hasn't gotten smaller than a pea. Note that I also often rinse with peroxide, regularly floss and brush.
Should I be worried about this? It doesn't hurt but I can feel the lump and it is really annoying to feel in my mouth all the time.

    TL;DR
I have a lump on my gum above a tooth that regularly has pus come out. Its been two weeks, what should I do?

    Thanks
    - Kael

You need to see the dentist/oral surgeon as you have an infection, which left untreated may cause serious problems. Ouch!

How urgent? I don't have healthcare coverage for awhile my application is being processed or some such, whatever I do will be out of pocket (poor college student)

Any way that I can clear the infection without going to the dentist?

Maybe your dentist can prescribe the necessary antibiotics over the phone and save you the expense of going back in? You really need to get rid of that infection, or it may spread and cause some really nasty consequences.
Curious as to why you used a thumbtack? Never would have thought of that. Maybe a sterile needle?

    I'll call them.
I used a thumbtack because it was easy to hold, sharp, and I could find one. I doused it with alcohol first though.

    Thank you for your answers!

Most dentists will work with you if you don't have insurance.

Probably just prescribe a cheap anti-biotic for you.

I had a similar problem which did not clear up until I had a root canal done. The other cheaper option is to have the tooth extracted.

Closing this. I ended up going to the dentist, who was not happy that I did my own oral surgery. She gave me some anti-biotics which she said would hold off the infection until we could do a root canal. Thanks for your replies guys!
