Wisdom Teeth Extraction: Is bone grafting necessary?

I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed (all are impacted) and my oral surgeon recommended that I get a bone graft for my bottom left wisdom tooth since it grew close to my 2nd molar. My friends never had bone grafts done, so I was wondering if it's necessary since I'd have to pay more money ($800) out of pocket. Please give me your opinions, thanks!
