Activated charcoal good for your teeth or bad?

    Dear community,

I`ve been using activated charcoal powder for the last while, and it`s made a huge difference in whitening my teeth, aka soaking up some builtup plaque.

Like many other products, activated charcoal seems to be a heated topic; some believe it`s fine, even good for your dental flora, and some say that it has potentially devestating effects due to it`s "highly abbrasive" quality. What`s your take on it?

I stopped brushing my teeth with it. Instead, I now simply smear it onto my teeth and let it sit for like 20 seconds. I figured that this shouldn`t cause any abbrasion as there is no physical brushing. Today, however, I let the paste sit on my teeth for about 5 minutes and then noticed a slightly stinging sensation. So, I was thinking whether activate charcoal has abbrasive/enamel-unfriendly qualities just on its own, even without brushing?
