Biting Sensitivity

I had a crown put on 17 months ago, and only recently began feeling a dull pain when biting, which my dentist says will be fixed by his bite adjustment. It’s been a week, and the tooth is slowly feeling better, but every now and again when eating something, I can still feel a twinge in it. Definately not a sharp pain, as in when I had initially cracked it before the crown.

Anyone ever been through this? How long does it take to heal completely? X rays were taken, and he’s pretty sure there’s no new crack/decay, etc., and no abcess was present on the X ray.

He said give it some time to heal unless it gets worse, but I don’t know what ‘time” meant. He wasn’t really clear. 2 weeks? 2 months? Should I assume if it keeps getting better, slowly, or at least doesn’t get any worse in the next week or two, it’s progressing ok?

Please respond if you've been through this before.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Biting Sensitivity

Well I kinda know what your going through. But mine was the temporary crown. The dentist thought it was either food got under it or that the tooth may have been to high at spots putting pressure on it. But after 17 months I would think you should be ok unless it is too close to the pulp. Most people I know were given root canals with crowns. So far I'm lucky and on my 2nd with out the root canal. But if it's getting better, give it a week or 2 then demand some action to find the cause.
