Pain after root canal and tooth removal

Hi. I had a root canal almost two years ago. My tooth started turning gray after having it done and I went back. They missed a root so they re did it. I still had major pain and developed an abcess. Went back and they pulled the tooth. Since the tooth has been pulled I have had major problems. I got a major sinus infection... I have Never ever had one before. I get pain stemming from my jaw up to my ear and then I get this pain that goes around my right eye. It helps if I massage it, or if I close my right eye the pain lessens. Sometimes, my upper teeth ache. I do have a problem grinding and clenching my teeth at night. I have also had tmj surgery but on the left side. I didn't have any of these problems until my root canal and it got worse after the removal of the tooth. I see a new dentist next week. I'm wondering if it could be my eye since I have bad vision in my right eye as well. I haven't been able to eat on the one side of my mouth since the tooth removal. I am thinking of getting a bridge to replace the tooth but it is very expensive and I don't have dental coverage. Anyone had any problems after a root canal or tooth removal? It is on the upper right ... one of my molars. I am in constant pain all the time. Any suggestions? Thank you

    Hi:
I don't mean to scare you but sometimes having a tooth removed can set off tmjd symptoms. If your teeth are balanced and something changes within your bite to evenly minimally affect that balance, symptoms can occur. Even having a tooth or crown done a teeny bit too high or two low can set off tmjd. Also, sometimes the root of teeth go very far into the sinus cavity which can cause problems upon removal.

All the symptoms you describe are tmjd symptoms, including the eye pain - although tmjd may not be your problem. I get pain up one side of my face, kind of achy pain which makes me feel like it's behind my eye and that my eye feels droopy (even though it doesn't look that way). My vision is also affected (also a tmjd symptom). Sometimes it's perfectly clear and other times not as in focus. I had my eyes re-checked recently as I was concerned. There is no change in my prescription and everything is fine with them.

You might want to see a dentist specializing in tmjd. They can do tomogram xrays to see if your jawbone is in the proper position.

    Good luck.

Thank you for replying You didn't scare me at all.. I sort of figured it might be tmj. I thank you for being honest with me. I had tmj surgery on the left side about 13 years ago. I really don't want to have it again if I can help it. I see the dentist next week. I thought about getting my eyes re checked as well. I had them checked about 6 months ago. The vision in my right eye is getting worse. I took some tylenol 3 and it helped with the pain. I am getting headaches just like before and the right side of my face aches like crazy. I will find out about the tomogram.. thank you
