    Apicoectomy--how bad?

Has anyone had an Apicoectomy and can tell me how it went? I'm having on this week and feel very aprehensive (okay, hysterical). Anyone have any advice or experience with this procedure.

    Thanks for your time.

    Re: Apicoectomy--how bad?

I've had 2 apicos on front teeth and will probably be having two more in the next month or so. The procedure itself wasn't as bad to me as an extraction. I kept ice on it for the first few hours afterwards, which kept the swelling down and didn't have any pain at all; just sore. I was given a prescription for pain but only took Advil every six hours for the first day, just in case.

I wasn't sedated for the apicos, just the injections to numb the tooth. Didn't take long at all.

Hope this helps. Even though, I've had it done before, I'm still dreading the next one.

    Re: Apicoectomy--how bad?

Just an FYI if anyone is interested: I had the Apico Friday and it really went well. I could feel and remember some things that were happening while I was under, but have had minimal pain and swelling. The worst part is the ugly stitches, but if this works, I'm very happy to report the procedure wasn't even as bad as the original root canal.

    Thanks,
    C

I've had two done. The second one I had quite a bit of swelling for the first day or two but that's it. I had it done both done under local anaesthetic with no sedation and felt nothing throughout the procedure.

    Good luck.
