bump on roof of mouth- help?
for the past few months i've had a recurring bump near the roof of my mouth, on the right side. it's just about painless and appears to be like a pimple only because it seems to be filled with fluid. i press down on it and it doesn't hurt, but sometimes the fluid disappears and only a little inverted part is left where it used to be. sometimes, it swells into a large bubble, but then goes back down.

what can this be?

I have the same thing except it is on my soft palate - in back of my mouth. It happens when I eat, it pops randomly, then comes back weekly. Does yours happen mainly when you eat?

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?
nope. mine never pops, although i did a very bad thing today and bought something in case it was a cankersore. i bought colgate seal and heal...which made it harder...and just wanting the thing out of my mouth, picked at it.

i put more stuff on it to seal it again though. it didn't bleed or ooze or anything disgusting.

i think mine might be because i have some dental work that needs to be done...maybe it's an infection from a bad tooth?

do you have a bad tooth near yours? maybe eating is just causing it to get irritated.

what do you think mine could be?

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?

I thought you said yours was fluid filled as well and then it gets smaller. Maybe it is popping randomly. I had an ENT and a Dermatologist tell me that they are caused when the saliva gets stuck in the gland causing a swelling then it resolves itself. I just don't know why mine is just in this one spot. It is very small like the size of a pen tip and then it goes flat when it resolves itself.

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?
that's what happens to mine...but it doesn't pop. that i know for sure.

i would go to the dentist, but i recently had a problem from another medication and now i'm on coumadin, which would cause me to bleed excessively if i were to get dental work done.

When does yours occur? Why don't you go to the dentist and have him or her just look at it. It would be interesting to hear another opinion. Can you see anything when it goes flat? Mine looks white - almost like a little canker sore.

On another general-discussion board I visit, a couple of people recently reported getting a blister just like you describe after taking Claritin. Are you taking that, or possibly any other medications with that side effect? Good luck.

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?
You should see your dentist. It could be an abscessed tooth that has been chronic for so long that there is little pain. The fluid from it would be more puss like and have an odor. Or it could be a salivary gland that periodically gets blocked. This fluid is clear and generally odorless. These are the two most likely, but there can be a number of other possibilities.

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?
Hi Janni & Cinemagic,

Thanks for your responses. What sight mentioned these with Clariton?

I am not currently on medication, but have recently gone off birth control pill. Cinemagic, has this happened to you with the blocked gland? Mine isn't related to an infection or anything. Everytime I go to the dentist or ENT or dermatologist it isn't there. It has resolved itself by then. It does come back though after the mucus fills the gland I guess.

I just wish it wasn't such a mystery and there was a solution to clear the gland.

Anyone else get these?

Re: bump on roof of mouth- help?
YES! I have the EXACT same thing, and it is driving me nuts. I had another posting on it recently. It's like a bubble that forms on the roof of the mouth, and sometimes has a white/yellow head on it. When I wake up, I can't even feel it, and it is almost totally flat and looks like a small canker sore. After dinner, it is usually inflammed and sticking out like a pimple. So it changes size, almost as if it is filling with fluid. I've even tried to pop it with a safety pin, which is probably not a good idea.

It is pretty small and doesn't hurt. I had it 6 months ago and it went away, but now it's back.
