Filling w/o any medicines...

I just visited my dentist today for a routine checkup. Everything is in perfect shape he says.. but I require a filling on one of my molars. He said it is a 'surface' problem and it won't even require any shots. Now, is the filling going to hurt w/o the shot? Or will it be just a vibrating feeling. He says it's nothing big, but to fill it before it decays more.

I am not even afraid to admit it, I deathly fear needles and shots. I have past out at the sight of them.. :P ,....soo..No needles made me happy, and then I thought, wil the drill hurt?
Now I'm even more scared. But I'm guessing it probably isn't that bad since he figures he'll get 4 sealants and this done in less than an hour... But any help on whether or not this will hurt would be nice,.

If it is very surperficial and he will have no risk of going deeper than the enamel you won't feel any pain, as it won't touch nerve. I had a filling like this done years ago when I was about 12 and it didn't hurt, you could feel the buzz from the drill but there was no pain, plus you don't have that horrid feeling of a frozen mouth for hours until the novocaine wears off!!!

Yup... I had some of those done. It was my first time ever getting work done so my dentist gave me some happy gas, but I had no pain at all. As opposed to the next time I went in and he gave me the gas and shot me up and I still had pain...

monkeeleader, I had a filling done once when I was younger where the dentist didn't use novaicane and I don't remember it hurting at all. Usually they tell you to let them know if you feel pain, so just have your hand free to raise in the air if he hurts you.
