My tongue is splitting!
Hi everyone,
On Saturday morning, I woke up with a sharp pain coming from the tip of my tongue. I figured it was a canker sore or maybe I bit my tongue in my sleep, so I got up and looked in the mirror. I noticed some redness, so I leaned in closer and saw that I have a small vertical split in the tip of my tongue, almost like a baby snake!
It's not that deep, about 3-5 millimeters deep, but it HURTS. It gets in the way when I eat or brush my teeth (like a canker sore in a "high traffic" location), I can't chew gum, you don't realize how much the tip of your tongue rubs on the inside of your teeth until you try chewing some gum with a tongue split!
I have made a dentist appointment for tomorrow afternoon so he can take a look, maybe tell me how to help it heal / keep the pain down....
Has anyone ever had this? Lots of people have splits on the SURFACE of their tongues.....that seems to come with age.
I can't find any information on the web, other than how it has apparently become cool to do this to your tongue on purpose, all the way down to the base (ugh!)
I'm 22 years old, had some history with gum problems, but I have some stuff to clear that up whenever it acts up...nothing serious.
Any help would be great, in case the dentist says nothing.
Thanks a lot!
