    Dry socket packing

    Hi everyone,

I went to the dentist today after having had a wisdom tooth removed last week, and almost constant pain this week. He said I have dry socket, and packed it with some stuff, which provided almost instant relief. He also prescribed some anti biotics. My question is this: some of the packing came out about 6 hours after it was put in, and there is also some hanging out of the extraction site. Is this normal? Should it come out on it's own? I've read on a few other posts that it may need to be packed every couple days, but my dentist didn't say anything about going back, so should it just heal on it's own after the packing has fallen out??
