Loose Tooth?

I'm under the suspicion that I may have a slightly loose adult tooth. If its loose, it isn't loose very much, even though the tooth in question is misaligned. I've had a few people look at it, but of course they're not professionals. Some have said it didn't look loose at all and it was just my imagination, some said it did look a little loose but not bad at all. Most people think its nothing, but I'm still a little worried.

I'm going to the dentist for the first time in 12 years tomorrow. I was a little kid the last time I went to the dentist and don't remember much about it. Will he check for loose teeth during the exam or do I need to specifically point this tooth out to him and tell him I'm concerned about it possibly being loose?

Re: Loose Tooth?

A comprehensive exam with x-rays should provide answers to your questions. 12 years is a long time between dental visits. Misaligned teeth aren't necessarily more prone to periodontal disease. Hopefully, you're overstating the "looseness" of the tooth. I'd point it out if the dentist doesn't address it.

Re: Loose Tooth?

Thanks, I'll definitely point it out to him, even if its just to give me some peace of mind.

The tooth looks like it has a very slight wobble in it, to me anyway. It doesn't bother me when eating, it doesn't wobble when I place my finger on the tooth and move my finger, it doesn't wobble when I brush my teeth either. The only time I can physically notice the tooth move a little bit is if I physically hold the tooth on both sides (front and back) and wiggle it that way. Otherwise, it is not causing any problems at all.

I well know that its well past time for me being due to go back to the dentist as 12 years is a very long time. Unfortunately I developed a dental phobia as a child and lived in a household growing up where you didn't go to the dentist unless you had problems. We never went in for simple exams or cleanings. I had a hard enough time convincing my family that I needed to see a dentist this time. :/
