Exclamation Lump on lower left gum.(Nerves).

I've had alot of dental work done recently including two lower left fillings and cleaning of an impacted wisdom tooth (awaiting appointment for removal).
After these my left lower jaw felt tender to touch, and my left side of my tongue feels tingly.
On inspecting my gums I could feel a swelling in the left lower gum which is tender..I pointed this out to my dentist who checked it,and said it was swollen but it's where your nerves are? she also said the infection from my teeth could of travelled down and settled in the nerve's... and said to leave it be..a couple of weeks later it's still swollen and sore to touch I went back and mentioned it again and she rechecked it and said it's definately where my nerves are but she is unsure as to why it as swelled, she said to give it time she felt the other side and my nerves arent swollen there its a tiny little lump.

I am concerned as to why it as swelled?? I am wondering if it as something to do with the work I've had done?

I can also taste a funny taste in my mouth and it's dry. Not sure if it's related.

Many thanks..

Hi. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. From what I've read and what I'm going through right now, it sounds as though you have an abcess. I would get an opinion from another dentist. An abcess can give you swelling in your face and neck (glands), a funny taste in your mouth, etc. It is usually treated by lancing, antibiotics and a root canal. It's very important to get on antibiotics as soon as possible. I recently had a root canal which has abcessed and it's very painful. I have a blister on my gum and swelling on that side of my face and neck. My dentist put me on antibiotics and is planning on re-opening the tooth to clean the infection out next week. From research I've done on the web, your symptoms sound like an abcess which can happen after dental work. Good luck and God bless!!

If the tingling in the tongue has been present since the filling of the lower teeth this could be due to the needle durig the injection hitting the nerve in your jaw. This will go away in time. If the problem with the tooth persists you should have the tooth xrayed and tested by tapping, ice etc.. If it worsens or does not improve insist on further tests
