new dentures make me gag

I just got new dentures . i was not able to leave with them after the extractions because they were way too big . Now they have fixed them and I can not get them both in my mouth . I can do top or bottom , but it gags me when I try to put both in . to the point that I vomit . How can I get past this ?

Re: new dentures make me gag

Ask your dentist if he can remove or thin out the upper where it covers the roof of your mouth. If you have a lot of bone on the upper and good retention, he may be able to trim it down to a "horseshoe" shape. Have you considered getting implants to support the denture? That way, you can remove a good bit of what touches the roof of your mouth. Touching the soft palate on the roof of the mouth is what induces the gag reflex
