    Root Canal question

I went to the dentist for a root canal. He worked for about an hour and told me I would have to go to a specialist. He said, he could not negotiate to the apex of the ML canal...He accessed three canals... He reached the apex on the MB + D.... ML only accessed with a #10 file but could not negotiate tot eh apex of the ML canal........(those were the dentist notes to the specialist)........

Before going into the dentist I did have an abcess blister on the outside of the tooth... that would go away and come back!! Well, while the dentist was doing the root canal he cleaned out the infection of the abcess.

So, this happened a couple of weeks ago around the holidays and I couldn't get into see a dentist.. and then had a tough work schedule that I couldn't get out of... NOw it is about 5 weeks after....... the dentist did not fill the canals he just put a temporary on the tooth till I could get to a specialist.

So here is the question... There is no more infection no abcess or hurting. If I go to the new specialist and they cannot negotiate to the apex of the ML can they just fill the areas that they got to and just seal it up and crown it and see what happens? I am NOT getting an extraction and I am NOT getting an implant. My tooth does not hurt and the abcesss is gone and I'd like to just have them fill it and put a crown on it and see what happens.....

PLEASE HELP!! I do not have the money to do anything above a root canal. It took me a while to save for that amount....

Oh and part two of the question is what would happen if I do not go back at all and just wait for the temp to fall off.... Is it bad to have those holes not filled? that's part two of the question...

Yes, there is insurance that covers some of this.

And to the OP, you should go to the endodontist and have it finished. In fact, you should have started with the endo. Once that's done, you can move forward towards the crown.

Titchou so are you saying that it sounds like I can just have this finished up and then the crown put on ??? What if the new dentist can't negotiate like the other ??

Thanks for responding. I'm in Atlanta area.

    Re: Root Canal question

Root canals really shouldn't be done by general dentists. The endo should be able to complete the procedure. So, yes, that's what you should do. My BIL is an endo so I am very familiar with these procedures. See if you can find one who did his endo at UAB. It's a great school and the ones coming out of there are really good.
