Dentist said I had oral lesion...I don't see anything. Should I still have it checked

A couple weeks ago, during my routine cleaning, the dentist said he spotted a lesion on my tongue. I should have asked for more detail, but I don't have a clue what he is talking about. He didn't suggest what it could be, but wanted me to see the oral surgeon at the office. I have no risk factors for oral cancer (no smoking, no tobacco use, might drink alcohol a few times a year, and I am pretty sure I don't have HPV). My guess is, it is probably nothing to worry about. I am busy at work and don't want to waste an afternoon going to the dentist for what is probably nothing. What does anyone else think?

Hi payers, If it were me & i really didnt remember what he said he saw I would call my dentist & ask what did he put on my chart when he referred me to the oral surgeon last week. And if he saw something & charted it i would go to oral surgeon. My husband had a small cloudy area on lip & the dentist sent him to dermatologist & it was leukoplakia a pre malignant lesion but to my husband it looked like chapped lips. I hope that its nothing to worry about too.

Agreed. Call your dentist and ask specifically where it is.
There are so many medical issues that are preventable. Please don't be too busy to take care of your health. Yes, we always hope that the results are that we have nothing wrong, but why take that chance? Best wishes to you.
