My husband thinks I'm just lazy how can I make him understand

I've been dealing with depression for years. But only recently have I actually gone to the doctor to get help. My husband seemed to be by my side and went with me to the doctor. yet now I feel he just resents me and thinks I'm not trying. He barely talks to me and I just feel even worse. I know it's hard to deal with me sometimes

    hi
I suggest you ask him to define "lazy"

    Hello.

I sometimes wonder if depression is one of those things a person has to experience first-hand to truly understand.

With that said, have you told him depression is an illness and not just about feeling lazy or unhappy? I think the fact you've been struggling with depression for years and you've gone to the doctor for help should illustrate to him this is a serious problem for you and it's not something you can just snap out of if you only tried hard enough. Are you seeing a therapist? If so, I would recommend bringing this issue up with your therapist.

Tell me about it. 6 yrs ago i had a paniv attack was prescribed medication. Then i was prescribe drugs for depression. When i took them i felt really sick for like 2 weeks then dr prescribe me a different medication and only lasted 1 week. The days i took the meds my hubby and i would bump heads. He would get mad when i wouldnt harley do anything at home. He doesnt believe in depression. He says its all in the head. I stopped taking the meds because i was feeling sick and because it was tearing us apart. I get depressed off n on . Now i have been depressed since January 2016. Few wks ago i noticed my depression was getting bad i got scared so decided to see my dr and give it another try . My husband doesnt know that i am taking meds because i dont want to argue with him. He thinks by taking a walk or working out will get rid of depression but not in my case. Maybe my depression wouldnt make me lay around if he would have my back and support me. But i am totally alone in this🙁 i did ask my dr to refer me to a psychiatrist because i need someone to support me.

    Taina,

I hope you're able to find a psychiatrist who supports you. From my own experience, having a professional who not only supports me but understands how depression distorts one's mind makes a world of difference.
