    Alcohol, Sleeping Tablets and Valium

Alcohol, sleeping tablets and Valium are all depressants right? When I first went down with this bought of depression I was drinking like a fish as my depression and anxiety were unbearable. I have improved since then and have not had any alcohol in 7 weeks. I may soon have to start using sleeping tablets as I am coming off remeron (which helps me sleep) onto Effexor. I was told that while I was drinking my anti-depressants would not work so well as alcohol is a depressant. How come we can take sleeping tablets and valium (which I am not taking) when they are also depressants?... or should we not be taking the sleeping tablets. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

    Good question.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer! I was on lexapro and had to add Trazadone to sleep.

Well, I heard that the pill you are taking now is REALLY ADDICTING. But some people are different. We are not all the same. It might work out different for you. Just thought you should know. Thanks for reading this. *~BYE!~*

I have a good friend who takes ativan every night to sleep. He has taken it for years, and hasn't had to raise the dose, and it continues to help him. As firefly says, everyone is different. Interesting question!
