    Exclamation Zoloft- Effexor Help!!

please help--- i am soooo nervous! i have been on 75mgs. of effexor for the past 4 years, and it recently hasn't been working that great, so i went to see a psychiatrist today. she wants me to switch from effexor to zoloft---what do i do??? im so used to taking the effexor, that i am scared to death about taking something new...i guess that's just part of the anxiety disorder, but im afreaid that i will have a bad reaction to the zoloft, or it won't work as well. the reason she did not just increase my dose of effexor is because i want to try and have a babay soon and she says that zoloft is safer to be on during pregnancy , than effexor. i told her that im really nervous to taper off the effexor- so her is what she wants me to do:

week one- 75mg effexor plus 25mg. zoloft
week two- 75mg effexor plus 50mg. zoloft
week three- 37.5mg effexor plus 50mg zoloft
week four- 37.5mg effexor plus 100mg zoloft
week five- NO EFFEXOR plus 100mg. zoloft

Does this make sense?? is it dangerous to be on both meds at one time???
i know she is a doctor- but im just nervous

    Re: Zoloft- Effexor Help!!

Hi there! I made the opposite switch a little while ago--from zoloft to effexor--and used a similar (but opposite) plan to go off zoloft and onto effexor. There were absolutely no problems when i was taking both at once. And it's good that your doctor is taking you off the effexor that gradually. But, no, I don't think you should worry at ALL about taking them both at the same time!

Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

    Re: Zoloft- Effexor Help!!

Reading these replies has made me feel better about my situation. I have been on Effexor - 225mg for 3 months, I have days when I feel a little bit of normality creeping in but the depression has nevr gone away in it like it did after I had been on Citalopram. My experience with Citalopram was that within 4 weeks of taking Cpram my depression just went away overnight. I want to try EsCitalopram now as I think it is cleaner, more potent and quicker acting than other AD's and its related to Citalopram. I am so scared of coming off Efexor... I can deal with the physical sumptoms but the fear of anxiety and depression make me scared. I like the way that you will be tapering the two drugs for 4 weeks. Looks like it makes a lot of sence and I will be suggesting it to my doc when I see him on the 13 Jan - I just hope the Efexor has kicked in by then but after 3 months I doubt it and I will be looking forward to starting Escitalopram.... I HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS!!!

When i started Effexor, I found it took a while until I was feeling any better. It took close to four months, but was very rapid after that. HANG IN THERE!

As for the switch, I don't have an answer for you. :0( It is good to know however, that this IS possible and that there are options, as I too have been told that pregnancy is not a good idea on Effexor.
