Question topomax?

I am taking 150mg of Effexor (1x a day) and have also been taking Neurontin 300mg twice a day. I went to the Dr yesterday and he, after talking to his wife found out (who is a phychiatrist)that the amount of Neurontin for anxiety I am taking would not touch my needs. He found out that I have gained 10lbs in one month after losing 61lbs since January. He realized that I did not wish to gain the weight back and so he switched me to Topomax with a gradual increase until I ended up on 100mg a day. Has anyone taken Topomax for anxiety? I looked on the internet and have found nothing and I like to understand the medicines I am taking. I am also having to switch all my meds to taking them at night as I have been falling asleep during the day at work. Any suggestions, ideas or confirmation would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Cool

I have been taking topamax for weight control for several months and am currently on the max dose of 400 mg/day. Topamax is an anti-seizure med which was later found to be effective in both controlling mood stability and for appetite control. I have never heard of it being used to control anxiety. Hope that helps.

Thumbs down

Well, I have been on Topomax for about five days now, and all I want to do is sleep! I take it at night as well as the Effexor. I guess I need to communicate this all with my Dr, I am getting discouraged! Any suggestions?????

Cool

Sometimes the side effects of meds go away after a short time. Also, effexor tends to energize people - maybe you should be taking it in the morning? Sorry, that's all I can think of, you'll have to see your doctor.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the ideas, you are certainly sweet to try and help me! I had been taking the Effexor in the morning and couldn't stay awake, so the Dr told me to switch to taking it at night. So, onward we go back to the Dr and see what to do now... I just want to move on and get this all solved and feel better! I am tired of being moody and tired all the time! Thanks again for the feedback!
