Unhappy help for my depressed husband

my husband fell and broke his ankle in 4 places on 10/6 and required surgery (1 plate and screws to fix it)on 10/16.he is so depressed I have tried everything to cheer him up.it is getting too cold to take him out in a wheel chair for a walk.I have suggested maybe going to the mall or something and he wont go.all he is allowed to do is sit with his ankle propped up in the recliner.sometimes the pain is really bad. he is out of pain meds and his doc will not prescribe anything more till his next appointment.he is taking extra strength tylenol to no avail.we have even used ice packs which I make.he says they are pointless because he cant feel it through his cast. if anyone has any suggestions or has been in this situation please tell me how to help my husband.thanks.

I would get the docs permission to try another pain
reliever other than Tylenol. It could be just not
working at all. If he is depressed just sitting around
(and pain can cause depression, too!) you may want to
tell the doc he is getting depressed.
If it is possible to distract him with photo albums,
deck of cards, etc. even if temporarily. Good luck,
I cannot even imagine!
(My daughter broke an elbow once, and they had her
on 500 mg of Motrin at home.)

you may want to have some friends over some night or on the weekend. it might keep his mind occupied, and also assure him that he has people that care about him. just a thought. good luck
