Jabba, don't be scared. When I took Paxil, I thought, so THIS is how this stuff works?! What a load of you-know-what. I hated it. Drugs don't "work" for everyone, I'm sorry to say, but I'm sure that your doctor will probably either up your dose or add more drugs to the mix. It's pretty common. We've all been duped about how many are "helped" by chemcial psychiatry. Some routinely post percentages that are fed to us and the FDA by the drug companies themselves. Do a search on saying no to psychiatry (chemcial). You'll find some good information.

They're both SSRIs, but none of them are exactly alike. You should probably give it another couple of weeks. Also, I've often heard that if one restarts taking a drug that they've been off awhile, they may have a different experience. Many say that it didn't help as much or at all. Maybe, since the two drugs are so similar, that's what's happening. Just a thought.

    Good luck.

yes i talked about that possabily with my doctor, she said thats not possible but i have only heard that with seroxat if you miss it for a few days, it wont work as well next time you take it and thats one of the reasons behind seroxat being so wrong

I had that effect with several ADs that I took. Whenever I went back on one to try it again, it did not work the same for me. Two of my doctors said that was quite common.

Re: how long can it take lexapro to work?

    Hi SOE,

I started lexapro in Feb. of this year. It made me feel sleepy for the first few days, but then it really started working. It's so good to wake up and feel good about starting the day. However, we all know AD's work different on people. I have been on amiltriptyline for 20 years, but I had a recent set back. I've had a lot to deal with the last year. The plan is to help me get straightened out and then wean me off the lexapro. The amiltriptyline (elavil) has done such a good job that my psych is keeping me on it. It's an older AD and it's a tryciclic.

Back to your question. I go some benefit from it in as little as three days. It works on both anxiety and depression, and I have both. My daughter is on it and she's never had a problem. I feel guilty because I'm sure she inherited her tendancy for this horrible disease from me. At least hers is deluted. It's not nearly as crippling as mine was. She is a highly functioning adult.

She has had no side effects after nearly two years. The thing I like about it is it doesn't make me feel like a zombie. It lets me deal with things on my own, and not just go through life thinking everything is ok.

I'm going to miss my friend lexapro. lol

I hope you find whatever works best for you, It may not be lexapro. Take Care and keep us posted......Connie

Feeling better mood-wise but not feeling able to get out and go...if that's not the ultimate tease. It's possibly an initial side effect, so give it another week or so, and it may turn around. If not, talk to your doctor about it. They wouldn't give you a stimulant but might possibly look at a (hate to say it) new med. Glad to hear your mood has improved. Hopefully all will fall into place soon and you'll be out and about and feeling good.
