Re: citalopram

This was the first med I went on in the middle of last year, April 05, and it was nasty. I barely made it a month before I was pulled off. Weight gains, headaches from hell, constant tremors, etc. Mind you keep in mind I am med resistant so if there is a side effect it tends to get multiplied. I know people who have been out with no difficulty.

Re: citalopram

Its only a 14 day course, right now. so i figure i should try and see how it goes. if you exercise and diet while you take the pills, will that stop you gaining weight, or does it make no difference?

Re: citalopram

that will differ from person to person, most anti depressants you need to keep an eye on what you eat as for some reason your metabolism slows down.

Re: citalopram

my metabolism is already slow and i tend to comfort eat. I'm not fat right now, but i've gained about 22 pounds in the last year due to comfort eating. i was slightly underweight before hand though, due to an eating disorder. do most meds make you gain?

Re: citalopram

yep, the best one or more popular antidepressant where a lot of people claim they either lose weight or stay at the same weight is Wellbutrin

Re: citalopram

...just a quickie, I was on what I think is quite a high dose (20mg) as well as effexor, but I noticed no difference at all with this drug. The only one I found helpful to me was sertraline (zoloft)

Good luck and hope it works for you,

hugs

Re: citalopram

I was on citalopram (celexa) for about 3 months. They first put me on Paxil, and it was AWFUL...plus can have bad effects on fetus if you get pregnant. I am only 26 and so that scared the life out of me. I then was put on Prozac. It was okay for awhile, then became a nightmare when I would wake up so tired that I had to struggle with my day. There is a side effect of Prozac that can wake you up, up to 300 times a night without you knowing it. THat is what happened to me. SO, they finally put me on Celexa, and it really helped. I also have anxiety....(and lost 30+lbs due to it) and this pill helped me keep off the weight, b/c when I went off from it I gained like 5 lbs pretty quick. Of course I was feeling better too, so that didn't help, b/c I could eat normally again. I think it really depends on your body make up as to weather or not you gain weight with SSRI's. Good luck. I am sure you will be fine.

Re: citalopram

Hi Zoe

I used to take this. i did gain a little wait at the time but i am pretty positive that it was because i was working nights at a factory and eating a chocolate bar every break and we had six breaks a night! and you burn less carbs then too. The meds worked well for depression at first but then started to stop working, but that was also to do with my outlook on life.
