Surviving twin

I've been depressed pretty much my whole life and I've come to realize that its partly because I was born a twin but she died when we were 5 months old. I've always felt alone in life, never had many friends, and always just felt a little 'off'. I see stories of twins and I feel so jealous that I missed out on what should have been the missing link in my life. I just wanted to know if anyone else has shared the same experiences as me, and how did you ever learn to deal with it. Im 25 now and im finding it harder now then before now that I have a child. I feel like I should be sharing that experience with her or something. I am getting help with it, but its nice to hear other peoples experiences then just telling it to my shrink lol

Re: Surviving twin

Confused, I have heard that adoptees mourn their mothers. The baby is listening to its mother's voice for months in utero and then the voice disappears and is never heard again. I have heard this is why adoptees always feel this empty hole for their birth mothers. I would assume that you knew your twin as an infant and that you were mourning at 5 months of age for her. If you never realized that that was what you were doing maybe it made it more difficult to mourn. I am sorry for your loss of your twin. I am glad that you are in therapy. Good luck to you.
