My new insurance doesnt cover Effexor

After beeing on Effexor (75 mg) for one year i now have to switch to something else because our new insurance doesnt cover Effexor.

I've felt very fine this year so of course im worried what will happen now.

Havent talked to my dr yet, just had a phonecall from the insurance company tonight, any ideas of good replacement? thanks

This is probaly a dumb question but does it cover the generic version -Venlafaxine - after being on Effexor for a year you more then likely will go through withdrawl if you stop cold turkey. I am not what happens if you go from Effexor to whatever.

Re: My new insurance doesnt cover Effexor

I have always found that when my insurance denies something, as they often have, it just takes my doctor calling my insurance company directly and insisting that's what he/she wants for me.

It's a pain for the doctor, but I have never been turned down by my insurance if my doctor calls them directly.

Havent seen my dr yet, hopefully he can see me tomorrow (wed). His office said that he had said that a substitute (generic) which will be covered by the insurance is ok.
I only have 3 Effexor capsles left so i'll ask him for samples if im going to switch.

    thanks for your replies

Re: My new insurance doesnt cover Effexor

My psychiatrist prescribed Effexor, but if there is a generic version of a drug my insurance company will cover the generic version, so I'm on Venlafaxine XR, and she was fine with that.

I always say I'm on Effexor though, because it's easier to say/spell!

I use to be on Effexor and switched to the generic version and have never noticed any difference. I also say I am on effexor because I can't spell the generic version

Re: My new insurance doesnt cover Effexor

My doctor's office said that i can still get Effexor but then i must pay $70/month.

    If i buy Venlafaxine XR

    i pay $100 for 3 months.
