    Adding Celexa to Wellbutrin--please help!

I am new to this forum, so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place.

I've been on 200 mg of Bupropion SR (generic Wellbutrin) for 3 months. It gives me energy but causes anxiety and I still have some depression. I am decreasing it to 100 mg and adding 20 mg of Celexa/Citalopram (building up to this dose of Citalopram). I've heard of people adding Wellbutrin to Celexa but not the other way around. Has anyone tried adding Celexa to Wellbutrin? If so, what was your experience?

I don't see a pdoc, just a general practitioner and I'm not sure how much he reallly knows about antidepressants. I am in a stressful new job and really want this med transition to go well! Thank you for your support!

This is a common combo - though I dont know why you are reducing the dose.

The usual daily dose of Welbutrin is 300mg per day, for full effect, one would normaly take 300mg of welbutrin each morning, and 20mg - 40mg of citralopram each morning.

So, if you find that the 100mg + 20mg doesnt completely relieve your symptoms, you have plenty of room to up the dose.

    Thank you!

I did see that others were on higher doses of Wellbutrin than me. I'll keep that in mind if this doesn't do the trick. Good to keep on top of things as I've sometimes gone too long without fixing dosage.

    I appreciate your answer(s)!

Also, if you find Welbutrin too stimulating, there is another activating antidepressant that works on noradrenalin, called nortriptyline (Pamelor). It can actualy help releive anxiety rather than cause it, and is usefull in combination with citralopam....normal dose is 75mg at bedtime.
