Unhappy desperate and frustrated

I have been diabetic for over 20 year, but it hasn't been until the last few years that I haven't been able to keep it fairly well controlled with metforman and diet. I am now taking 2000mg metform twice a day, 20 of januvia once a day, 30 units novolog 3 times a day and 70 units toujeo at night. My a1c is 9.1 and the more insulin I take the more I swell. My feet hurt so bad I can barley walk. My stomach is in the way and I feel 10 month pregnant. I have trouble breathing, especially when exerting myself. My doctor does not seem to have answers. He keeps increasing my insulin and put me on diuretics, which don't seem to do anything.(and exercise which is impossible while swollen) Someone please give me some advice. I am ready to give up the fight and drown my sorrows in sugar cream pie.

Sorry but I think I would be looking for a new doctor. See if you can get an appointment with a diabetic specialist so he/she can do some lab work on you, take a look at your diet, your medication regime and try to find some answers for you.

Good luck and I hope you find some answers. At the very least get a second opinion to put your mind to rest that everything possible being done for you.

What is the cause of your feet swelling? Are you allergic to something? Did it happen after you went on insulin? I've heard of people being allergic to the formulation of a specific insulin, but I have no idea what their symptoms were. Of course, it might be an allergy to something else or not an allergy at all. I agree with the comment above - if you can't get some answers from your current doctor, it may be time to find a new one.

An A1c over 9 is insanely high. What are you doing to control your diabetes besides taking insulin? Have you cut out or way down on high carbohydrate foods like rice, pasta, bread, fruit, and anything with sugar? Since you've been diabetic so long, you may well know what foods are high in carbs, but since you didn't specifically say what your diet includes, it is possible you might be eating things that are less than ideal for a diabetic. Many diabetics have to limit their carbs to less than 100, or for some less than 50 grams of carb a day unless they take an insane amount of insulin. You can look up the grams of carb in many foods by just doing a web search for "carbs" and the name of the food.
