    Kidney failure help

The background is im 40yr old woman with type 1 diabetes for 35yrs. As u can imagine ALL the negative side effects of long term diabetes have begun. I have acute neuropathy, gastroparesis, high blood pressure, slight retinopathy and the list goes on.
I'm suffering renal failure and they surgically implanted the fistula in my arm and when matured dialysis can begin. my question is at what time should dialysis begin?
My doctor said we can safely wait until my GFR goes down to 7, being that right now it's at 11.1, is it normal to wait until it goes lower?
I feel uncomfortable waiting till my own kidneys aren't doing much to help when I'd it began earlier my own kidneys would still be working a little
    Thanks for any help offered
