| What about Splenda? Can I use that?
Now I'm worried about Splenda. I use a 1/2 a pack on my shredded wheat and I use a pack maybe 3x per week in my green tea.
Is this okay? It won't raise my bg like sugar, right?

I haven't had a problem with it raising my BS levels and I have used it several months in tea and on my morning cereal. I am Type 2 and us Metformim as my medication at 2000 mg a day.

Splenda is fine. Not to use in regular already sweetened green tea, only insweetened green tea. You can also use it in baked goods as well.

Thank you, Trekgirl. I sure was hoping so. I only need it for things unsweetened.
I've posted about my shredded wheat, but haven't gotten responses.
I always thought plain shredded wheat was good--one summer I ate fruits, vegetables, salmon and shredded wheat and lost 45 lbs.
I looked on the label the other day and saw that it had 40 g. of carbs. I couldn't believe it! That seems like so much, yet of course it has nothing added and NO sugar.
What do you think?
Thank you,
Salty

Thank you, LadyChecotah, I am happy that I can use Splenda.
What do you also think about what I asked Trekgirl about the Shredded Wheat?
Thanks,
Salty

While we're talking about Splenda, has anyone found a snack bar or candy made with just Splenda and no sugar alcohols? I found Slim-Fast peanut butter crunch bars at the 99 cent store, a box of 12 for 99 cents. Delicious and a great deal, but though they do note that they are made with Splenda, if you look at the label, the first ingredient is maltitol, with Splenda way down the list.
Shredded wheat is pretty high in carbs with not that much fiber. Fiber One has over 14 gm fiber and a net 10 gm carb per serving. I like Carb Well cereal which has 5 gm fiber and a net 9 gm carbs.

JacquelineL, I, too, have been looking at those bars and so far, I haven't seen anything I feel I should be eating.
I'll look into the Fiber One and the Carb Well, thanks for the suggestion.

Splenda's great, I love the stuff. I use it in the morning on my non-sweeten cereal, and also koolaid! |

Salty -
I eat Shredded Wheat nearly every day for breakfast...but I only use 1/2 cup (which is half a serving and 20g carbs). Since Shredded Wheat is so bulky, I find half a cup to be more than sufficient. I add 1/2 cup blueberries (or a cut up apple in the winter) and one cup of milk, and it still comes in at just under 50g of carbs, which isn't bad for one meal. Of course, I'm on insulin, so I can adjust for the carbs...but still, I think it's a good breakfast...whole grain, dairy and fruit, with lots of important nutrients included in those ingredients!
