    6 Foot 1, 120lbs, help gaining weight?

    Hi, I am a 20 year old male that weighs around 120lbs. I am extremely underweight for my height but can not seem to gain weight at all. I am sick of looking like a skeleton all the time but I don't know what to do to gain weight. My naturally high metabolism topped with Crohn disease makes it near impossible it seems. I am worried because my bmi is 15.83 which is severely underweight. I've been looking into weight gaining diets but I don't know where to start.

    I should also add that I am severely allergic to peanuts So I can not eat anything with them or that may contain them, which makes it more challenging to find food to eat

    You said you have a "naturally high metabolism" so I assume you don't have a thyroid issue but, other than that, I don't know why it would be naturally high.

    Crohn's disease is the likely cause of your weight-loss. In that regard, here are two important facts: 1) Crohn's disease is caused by inflammation and 2) a wide variety of natural, whole plant-foods should prove to be anti-inflammatory.

    What to avoid:

    *Processed foods

    *High-fat non-fiber foods

    *Fried foods

    Get fats and extra calories from raw, unsalted nuts and seeds, according to the serving size stated on the package. For example, raw almonds and walnuts; ground (milled) flaxseeds mixed into oatmeal. Avocados are a good source of fat and calories too.

    Get your protein from legumes because legumes are a good source of fiber and you need all the fiber you can get. Try to get about 35 grams of fiber daily from natural, whole plant-foods. Your digestive system needs fiber in order to function properly. (Note: All plant foods contain some protein so it's not just protein from legumes, it's just that legumes provide more.)

    Eat a variety of natural whole grains, possibly as much as 6 servings per day. This is another good source of protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber.

    Moderate exercise, like walking, should be of some help as well.

    Ask your Chron's doctor if they can recommend a nutritionist for you. You need professional assistance finding a diet plan which works for you. Dont start trying fad diets on your own; you dont know what the ingredients are or if they will hurt your health. Your doctor is your very best source of information on how to proceed with weight gain!
