    Are eggs meat? Scientific evidence?

Hello all, I have been researching this topic all over the place and don't have a definitive answer. Some articles state since eggs do not contain any tissues from animal it is not meat.

My question is, for vegetarians, are there any by-products or enzymes from meat contained in eggs and if yes, any scientific evidence anyone can link me to please?

Instead of asking, "Are eggs meat?" I think the question should be, "Do eggs contain animal cells?" In that case the answer would be yes. After all, an egg is an unborn chick.

    Does that answer your question?

Thanks, would you say eating an egg is eating any semblance of meat?

It's obviously different than meat but it is animal protein and fat that came from an animal. So it's just a differ form of protein and fat. I suppose an unborn chick is still an animal, in my opinion.

I decided a long time ago to become a vegan to maintain good health, so I never tried to figure this out before.

Appreciate your honesty. I'm battling Psoriasis so it's very important that I know for sure which is why I am seeking any possible scientific evidence. Articles on the net are just that, articles and not a medical source.

Knowing the reason for your question helps. I just read that red meats contain arachidonic acid and that is what is thought by some to make psoriasis symptoms worse. Eggs from chickens fed on corn and soy contain a good amount of it. Corn is a major ingredient in most chicken feed.

Right, corn is one of the major no-no's for a lot of P sufferers, also meat consumption is recommended to limit to only 2-3 meals per week if at all.

I'm not sure about enzymes but there is a hormone that is common to all forms of animal protein. And this hormone is responsible for speeding up cell growth. It's called Interleukin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF1). And this, I suspect, may possibly contribute to the problem of psoriasis. As I understand it there's a fast growth of new skin cells below the surface and the old skin cells above are not shedding fast enough to make room for the new cells.

All animal protein has this hormone but dairy products are said to be the worst.

Inflammation plays a role in this but I'm not sure if it's because of one's diet etc. or just the result of the Psoriasis.

I would count eggs as meat. If you look at the cells, they are scientifically probably quite different from meat, but at the core of the question whether eggs are considered animal product or not I would say yes they are in some way animal cells.
